Echo
Short Film
Context
This short film was made as part of a workshop, with a deadline of less than a week for conception, shooting and post-production. I wrote the script, actively participated in creating the shots, played the lead role, and edited the first part of the film (until the character's departure from his shelter).
Synopsis
In a post-apocalyptic world where the air is contaminated, a survivor lives reclusively in a makeshift shelter. Torn by loneliness and haunted by the memory of his missing wife, he decides to leave his shelter to search for her, despite the dangers outside.
Intentions and description
The challenge was to create a heavy, contemplative atmosphere, illustrating loneliness and fragile hope in a hostile environment. We used natural lighting and cold hues to reinforce the sense of isolation, while playing with tight framing and wide shots to show the scale of the void surrounding the character.
The slow pace of the first part, which I edited, underlines the boredom and heaviness of the passing days, before marking the decisive moment when the character emerges from his shelter.
The film was recorded with a BlackMagic Camera, and edited on DaVinci and After Effect.
